Hull College.
Bringing personality and playfulness to educational interiors
Hull College.
Hull College is nestled in the heart of Hull, providing both FE and HE courses from vocational training to degree-level qualifications.
With our track record and extensive experience working in the higher and further education sectors, we were approached by Hull College on a very different type of project.
Rather than go to an interiors company, Hull College wanted their interior graphics and messaging to be bold and different.
Everyone loves a pun.
Our brief was to be bold, brave and fun. So we pitched an idea to the Hull College team that used puns and plays on words around the word ‘Hull’ as a fun way of celebrating the place and making the users of the building smile.
Welcome to Hullywood.
Our Managing Director, Rob, is known for his puns and dad jokes, so this was right up his street.
We created a series of graphics and posters for around the building that had a very tongue-in-cheek play on words.
The results were very far from the inspirational and motivational style quotes and messaging often found in these types of settings. This more candid approach really resonated with its young audience, creating moments of connection and humour throughout the building.

Extending the messaging to serious subjects.
On the back of this project, we also worked on more issue-based posters and communications around subjects such as anti-bullying and other welfare issues.
The playful approach we’d established helped these important messages land with students in a way that felt authentic rather than preachy, maintaining engagement while addressing serious topics.
What the team says:
“This was a real fun project for the team and something outside of what we’ve ordinarily done for the education sector. Having a 3D canvas to work on was challenging but also very rewarding.
Being able to inject humour and personality into an educational environment, while still delivering meaningful messaging, showed that you don’t always have to be serious to be effective.
Seeing our work throughout the Hull College building and knowing it brings a smile to students’ faces every day makes this project particularly satisfying.”
